Ill more than likely receive a lot of shitty feedback for expressing my honest views and opinions, but I just wanted to make a statement that being a cop does not make somebody an asshole. Not even close. PEOPLE are assholes and SOME of them happen to be cops. It really is simple as that. I cant imagine what it must be like to spend every moment of your job performing a rightful service to the public that could possibly cost your life, and at the end of the day, none of it matters, all because it goes unnoticed and/or unappreciated by those you fought for. People in any public service are given capacity to abuse their power; yes, including cops, but hating every cookie in the batch just because one is burnt is an insensitive and, frankly, ignorant demeanor to live by. Through the media, we have been exposed relentlessly to the harsh and shitty marks that some cops have left in our society, while the focus on the men and women who have kept their promise to protect us effectively has gone unrecognized by the general public. These people have their orders to defend justice, but most importantly, they are people with lives, perhaps more similar to yours than we may suppose. When they dont wear their tucked-in blue shirts and have their metal badges pinned next to their hearts, it is amazing exactly how much more humanized they become in our eyes. They are simply living out their lives, similar to the way we do. Anyone has the potential to be an asshole. Being a police officer does not make you one. We tend to attack what we dont know in this culture as it is, and this is yet another example of whats gone wrong in our media in this generation. Thank you for reading.
