Ill say it again... I love my job. Today Margot and I spent the day in Bloomfield in one of our favorite schools, Berkeley Elementary School, where they truly put their best foot forward (or sneaker?) hosting kids author, and all around phenomenal human being, Tim Green and the lovely and generous Giants running back Rashad Jennings as they rolled out the pilot for a new version of the NFL program PLAY 60, with a new addition inspired by Tim: READ 20 - get it? Because reading every day is every bit as important as playing every day to a childs well being. It was a day that truly celebrated community. We got to see a young first year teacher tackle this huge task with detail and grace (Berkeley you are so lucky to have him), as a principal and a librarian led and inspired a whole school; as high school football players and their coach served as teachers and mentors to 6th graders for the day (superstars!); and as two stars, one a former NFL player, now attorney and successful author and one a current NFL star and childrens education leader, made lasting connections and impressions that will undoubtedly change young lives. Rashad played, encouraged and shared his story; Tim played, read and cheered. Tim gave a book to every single kid involved, copies of his newest book, FIRST TEAM, which I highly recommend to everyone. We at watchung booksellers helped bring all these folks together - then Berkeley, Tim and Rashad made a magic day. I feel privileged to know all these incredible people and very grateful for the experience. It was a special day for our community bookstore! (Marisela)
