Ill share my story this morning. As most of you know, I drive a school bus in one of the worst parts of town here. Theres a little girl thats been riding my bus since she started Kindergarten. Shes now in the 5th grade. She lives with her mother and older brother. Her father passed away this Summer from liver failure. To say this family struggles, is putting it mildly. But, they seem very close and I can tell theres a lot of love in the home. Last Friday she was going on a field trip with her class to St. Louis for the day. Only thing was, the students going on the field trip had to be at the school at 6:30 in the morning. This family has no car. When she told me she wouldnt be able to go because she had no way of getting to school that early, I decided to leave my house extra early that Friday morning, drive to her house, pick her up at 6:15 and drive her to school so she could catch the bus to go on the field trip. I also had packed her a bag of snacks and a drink. As she was getting out of my car, I tucked a few dollars in her hand and told her to buy her a soda or something when she got to St. Louis and to have fun. She turned to me and said Thank you, Miss Debbie Im sure it made her day to get to go but it made MY day to see her face light up! I just want her to know that people do care.
