Ill tell you what the Grimes strategy accomplished: it convinced a whole lot of young people and African Americans to stay home tomorrow, and, of course, it provided unwitting corroboration for most of the Republican lies. The GOP is SO awful now, that, a few weeks ago, I actually believed that Democrats could survive the usual midterm clobbering and even pick up some seats. But that was a few weeks ago. Why is it that all the talking heads on TV knew all along that the Democrats were sealing their own doom? Today, people as far apart politically as Ed Rendell and Joan Walsh were agreeing that Democrats blew this election by trying to be Republican Lite instead of underscoring the differences between the parties. (I know those two are both Democrats, and Ed Rendell is liberal in some respects, but there is a world of difference between his version of liberalism and that of Ms. Walsh.) Who else came to the identical conclusion about Democrats opening the game by deferring and then playing defense the rest of the way? Bill Maher. His final New Rule last Friday was centered on this very point. Frankly, at this stage, I wouldnt be terribly surprised if the Democratic candidates lose every single contested senate seat tomorrow, and I am not exaggerating. I mean, if former New Hampshire governor and current senator Jeanne Shaheen is hanging on to a ONE percentage point lead over The Centerfold, what more proof do you need? (Continued)
