Im TRYING to raise gentlemen! TRYING so very hard...and it is hard in this chaotic world of texting, instagram, snapchat and tweets! But Im trying! Teaching my boys, all 3 of them, to be gentleman, to open the door for a girl, to shake someones hand and introduce themselves, to pay for their dates dinner if they asked her out and on and on and on...trying to teach them as much as I can so they can go on to have healthy relationships when they are older. I get that we also teach our daughters to be leery of people, to not trust everyone they meet. I have a daughter too so I know we have to teach them to be safe. Can we also teach them to be gracious as well. That when someone buys you dinner, whether its a date, your husband, your parents, your boss, you say THANK YOU. It doesnt mean you owe them, its just a thank you. I still thank Steve Darpel when we go to dinner. He thanks me when I make dinner at home. We appreciate the things that we do for each other and acknowledge those things, EVERYDAY! It totally irks me when I drop off a child thats not mine, after a nice dinner, and they dont even bother to say thank you. I use that moment to teach my child what NOT to do. It REALLY irks me when this happens to my boy. My boy, who worked so hard to earn his money to buy someone dinner and doesnt get a thanks. Can we teach our kids to just be thankful and gracious, for even the small things?? Wont this make them better spouses and partners? Come on, help me out here!!! (sorry, just had to get this out. Im far from being a perfect parent, most days I feel like Im falling down on the job!) And then theres this: I take food over to an old friends home, I havent really seen her for years and I have never met her son. Her son is now friends with my son. He ACTUALLY hugs me and says thank you for the pizza, then he shakes Steves hand and thanks him as well...I was BLOWN away and it brought tears to my eyes! So, thank you Katie Cook Nolan and your husband Dan for giving me some hope!!
