Im a Steve, due to sheer fate, but I like Mike way more. Working people who do the actual work that actually makes this city the fastest growing in America, making food & maintaining homes, teaching & guiding the future, building condos, etc., are getting shoved around by the new $ moving in, out of places many of them & their families have lived for decades. Mike is a 13-year firefighter who worked with & for his very conservative firefighter brethren to such a high degree that they made him their association president, as he fiercely & justly advocated for better standards for firefighters & by extension advocated for all workers. After 8 years on the City Council, he has made major gains for workers throughout the city especially championing & passing thru a requirement that all city contractors must pay their workers living wages. Hes been extremely bold on building a green energy for the city and he helped to quite muiraculously rebuild the local Cap Metro transit system from shambles to shininess and heloed to establish the existing rail line. His opponent meanwhile, a multimillionaire lawyer whos represented many developers fighting environmental safeguards in the city has smashed all-time Austin political fundraising records & is trying to buy his way into office on top of the funds hes raised from wealthy donors by loaning his campaign an additional $300,000. The choice for me isnt hard at all. Now, this is a great comicky commercial that gives a pretty decent rough idea of the two cultures are the strangely co-existing here in Austin.
