Im a fan of many authors and illustrators. Typically Im a fan of their work before ever having a chance to meet them or hear them speak. This was the case with Jacqueline Woodson, whose picture books blew me away from first-read right through countless re-readings and sharings. I was able to hear her speak and meet her almost a decade ago, in a room with more empty chairs than filled. She was genuine, articulate, committed, and thoroughly engaging. Theres no doubt she will never again have empty seats when she is part of a program.
