Im a little surprised there is such an uproar about Fulhams recent departure list to be honest. My opinion is as follows and of course might not suit everyone elses thinking but hey ho lets go. Damien Duff - (35 years of age) I wont say much here because i think the general consensus is thank you dear friend, best wishes on your journey. Steve Sidwell (31 years of age) arguably one (but not necessarily the) best player of last season which we have to remember was in effect a bad season, not to look down on our players but its a moment for thought. Fulham consistently have topped the table for oldest teams in the league, now by all means perhaps fitness levels are high, but surely in preparation for the championship we need to lower that age gap considerably to find the talent whom is able to take on the needs for constant football (and lets be up ourselves, a cup run too! Why not, be optimistic, love your club!) Giorgos Karagounis (37 years old) an instant fan favourite, he seemingly wore his heart on his sleeve and worked tirelessly when called upon, but as noted already a big factor in the age category. Mahamadou Diarra (33 years old) Noticing a trend of age here? Physically couldnt stand during the last minutes of the last games. Thank you and good luck in the future. John Arne Riise (33 years old) Im not making these ages up, okay in certain positions age brings forth better abilities in some respects, but the man with the wonder strike, never showed that special flair and although was a very 50/50 amongst fans at times, played his part, thank you and good luck. Derek Boateng (31 years old) Never seen as a 1st team player by however many managers we eventually had by the end of last season, will do well elsewhere, perhaps the Championship might have been a different type of challenge, the powers at be have elected otherwise. Thank you and good luck. John Heitinga (30 years old) signed a short term contract, was in a way an inevitable player to leave, played well in his few games, but heres to the future and new stars. Thank you and good luck. Neil Etheridge (24 years old) The ages have finally dropped, a neither here nor there goalkeeper, brilliant to some and not to others, will do well at a new club. Thank you and good luck. Matthew Briggs (23 years old) Honestly, this is the player im most surprised about, unless there are reasons the team didnt want him, injuries? Asking for too much from a new contract? A hot head who wants Premier League football? I do not know the answer, it seems possible this is the year David Stockdale may take the number 1 jersey (although debatable) I would of thought with JAR leaving that he would of stepped up to the challenge. Perhaps a coveted LB has already been chosen? Players i would like to see stay; Mitroglou, Dejagah, Hangeland, Riether. A mix of age and clearly a few whom will be high on transfer radars, but all whom i think could be a wrecking force in the Championship. It will be very interesting to see what players come in. Yes, the youth of Fulham look very promising and full of potential, but I believe stability still comes through what i can only think of describing as house hold names. Albeit they clearly wont be Ronaldo and Messi.
