Im a multiple-dog owner. I am not a police officer, and I dont - TopicsExpress

Im a multiple-dog owner. I am not a police officer, and I dont have to make split second decisions in the field in the interest of public safety. However, I do think that until youre in the position of facing off with an aggressive animal, all you can do is guess as to how youd react. It is very easy to say youd never shoot a dog. But imagine youre faced with that decision. Imagine youre trying your best to do your job, and all you want to do is protect and serve, and get home safely to your own family. Would you, when cornered by an aggressive dog of any breed, choose your taser and hope you stop it, knowing theres a possibility it would continue to come at you, or would you use the gun at your side that would most certainly neutralize the threat? Keep in mind that your own safety is not your only concern. You have the responsibility of protecting the other people in the area. Also, Im not saying that pit bulls bite more frequently than other breeds. Im not certain of the statistics. But the following excerpt from an online source says the following about the potential severity of a pit bull bite: Whether a pit bull bites more or less than another dog breed is not the point. The issue is the acute damage a pit bull inflicts when it does choose to bite. The pit bulls hold and shake bite style causes severe bone and muscle damage, often inflicting permanent and disfiguring injury. Moreover, once a pit bull starts an attack, firearm intervention may be the only way to stop it. Food for thought. Please dont judge unless you are 100% certain of the facts. And my thanks to law enforcement officers for their service.
