Im actually saddened by the death of Fred Phelps. His behavior and beliefs were so outrageous that i personally found him amusing. I know that his followers were limited mostly to his family and a few other wayward souls and in no way reflected on Religious groups as a whole. As emotionally disturbed, ignorant and reprehensible as he was, I have to respect his opinion and his right to voice that opinion. I also respect his standing strong by his beliefs as disturbing as they were. Although it was not his intent, he generated a huge amount of support for the LGBT community by Straight people, Christian and/or otherwise, who were equally appalled and disgusted by his actions.. Those who continue to believe that Gay people are going to Hell are slowly decreasing in numbers. Hopefully they will eventually find their way to practice true Christian Doctrine and not hide behind the Church to exercise their hate. He also reaffirmed why Separation of Church and State is even more profound now than it was when it was penned. Obviously Mr. Phelps lived his life fighting demons that didnt exist. I do hope he is finally at peace. .
