Im afraid my Letter To the Editor thanking Summer Street got a bit - TopicsExpress

Im afraid my Letter To the Editor thanking Summer Street got a bit lost in all the clutter of the political support postings (it appears about 2/3 way through all the letters). So here is a copy. Thanks again to everyone on Summer St! To the Editor: Every town believes theirs is a special place; however, Kennebunk might just be the most special of all. Nowhere is that more evident than on Summer Street at Halloween. For several years I have intended to write a letter thanking the Summer Street homeowners for their amazing decorations and incredible generosity. So this year I decided to say thank you ahead of time. In case there is someone out there who is not familiar with this wonderful tradition, many on Summer Street turn their homes into elaborate spooky creations, and then generously hand out thousands of pieces of candy to all trick or treaters. This is no small affair. The police close off the street and literally thousands of people turn out for what feels like a giant neighborhood block party. And it’s not only the locals, as I often hear people from other areas comment on how wonderful this is, and how they wish their town felt like Kennebunk. Our Summer Street neighbors are welcoming, friendly and infinitely patient (even after their hundredth zombie). I remember one homeowner comforting a frightened little child, while simultaneously handing out candy to boisterous middle schoolers, while carrying on a conversation with interested tourists – all while pleasantly ignoring her trampled flowerbed. WOW! And don’t forget, this is all put on by individual homeowners who spend their own funds to give our kids such a wonderful experience. While on that note, “Kennebunk Moms” have coordinated candy donations at several locations including at the Brick Store Museum and Poofberry’s toy store (we all know that KBK MOMS are leaders in just about anything that is anything around here.) So to our friends on Summer Street: THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You are wonderful, creative and so generous. Please know we appreciate all you do for our kids and for our very special town. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
