Im all for the most rigorous regulation of Care Homes, but this regulation needs to be designed to take into account innovative models of care that do not fit the assumptions of the regulatory system. It would be a crying shame if truly caring communities, in which residents genuinely thrive, were shut down, while poor care is allowed to go on in standard Care Homes which nevertheless manage to tick the right boxes. We need inspectors who can look at the human interactions in a range of care settings, and who are qualified to make judgements about the quality and dynamism of emotional support given to residents, as well as the obvious need to ensure high standards of safety and welfare.
