Im alone in the dark, with nothing but silence. With sleep on my mind, my lack of defense. I hear a bump, a soft step, creeping closer to my bed. I turn my head into the darkness. I see a room full of nothingness. Nothing but papers, stacked on my desk, and the floor, smothered with clothes. I roll back, facing my bed. Eyes on the wall. Its the cat, is all. Reassuring myself its okay to sleep, I hear yet another creek. Slithering closer to my bed, I hear a voice inside my head. Dont turn around. Dont play dead. Wait til the sun is up, before you get out of bed. I hear another thump and paper rustling, I clamp my eyes shut and whisper, Its nothing. I feel my body burn with fright. Now I wish I didnt turn off the light. Knowing my safety is no longer there, I realize my death is near. The thump creeps closer to the foot of my bed. No, no, its all in my head. I hear heavy breathing as I slip under the sheets. Why cant I just go to sleep? The thing moves closer til its over my head; not long now til Im finally dead. I feel the cold claw grasp my shoulder, waiting til its finally over. The claw digs deeper into my skin, piercing my flesh with ease like a napkin. Dragging me from my safe-place, I meet my tormentor face-to-face. Eyes of black, wicked grin from ear to ear. Skin so pale, with the feeling of rot, my lungs fill with fear. Feeling my chance of survival fade, the wicked claw slices my face. Going dizzy from the loss of blood, I fall to the ground with a loud thud. With one swift slash, my chest opens with deep gash. My heart pulsing with death, I realize this is the end. One more stare into my soul, eyes as black as coal. My last breath reaches my lips. As the thing holds me by my wrists, He whispers 6 simple words in my ear, breath smelling of decay and burning hair. With those words, I die in pain; never will I sleep again. This is what he said, while grasping my head: Its just a dream, my friend.
