Im an India-born Hindu, fortunate enough to have parents that were an example of the open mover genuinely open minded of their generation and thus never forced religion on me and let me explore and decide largely for myself - barring rote rituals and relatively minor ingrained habits and such that they cant let go of and I participate where minimally expected out of respect but no one is under the illusion Im a believer. One thing thats been a recurring thought over the years for me is that I personally trace ALL the worst religious evolution to have happened when they go from celebrations of life and trying to respect and the world and idealism (as several were to start with, if not most) to the more organised systems which then somehow become all about death and the fear of death and what comes after this life, to me this is a huge part of what drives wedges between people because Im trying to ensure my afterlife my way and we cant both be right (for some reasons...) - my question (which is two-fold) I guess is this: Do you feel my assessment is correct and what is the likelihood and/or what would it take to get past this and really start a genuine spiritual revolution for human society? Bonus query for anyone willing : care to venture how long it might take us to get over religion, if ever, hopefully before we kill ourselves over it? - If you have a question you want answered by the community, send it to [email protected]
