Im certainly no lefty... But for a Country that claims to love our children so much we sure seem to show little care about the children of other countries. I understand that we need to secure our borders. I understand that we need to stop this from happening again. But there has to be a way that both can be accomplished while still showing the compassion and resolve that has made this country great. These children were not brought here to become a problem. They were brought here because of a problem. These parents were trying to give their children a better, safer life. I refuse to believe that we are a country that would just turn our back on such people in such need. I realize certainly that we can-not allow this to continue. However, can the greatest country the world has ever seen not come up with a way to fix this problem? Not come up with a way to help these families in need. I want to believe we can. I hope the idea of America is not dead. The idea that this country was founded for all people not just the ones who were here in time. I certainly believe that we will fix this problem and we will one day look back and be proud of ourselves. If we are not able to help those in need what are we, but another super power only concerned with its own needs and wants. Maybe by showing respect and compassion to those in need we will learn that the world is meant for us all and not decided simply by the haves to take from the have-nots. Democrats and Republicans are both to blame for this problem. Both using this issue as a platform for re-election. I say fix the problem then take credit. Do not stand on the choking throats of others to obtain a vote. Never has a country had so much opportunity to do the right thing. Truth is deep down we want to. We just dont want to seem weak for doing it. I say what could be stronger but to lift up those less fortunate and give them the opportunity we were given simply by birthplace. The most selfish among us can probably debunk this entirely. But I ask you, is that who we want to represent our views, haven’t the selfish taken enough from us? Do not allow them to take our compassion and dignity as well.
