Im compeled to share my thoughts of this evenings community meeting regarding the environmental concerns with the water quality. Turns out the entire meeting focused on complaints on the water quality. When I approached to speak so that I could inform the public of El Cenizo and Rio Bravo on what is being done to resolve the matter, I was interrupted and told that I refrain from "politics" and then as I explained I was rudely interrupted by hecklers and was asked to limit my comments. However people that spoke out against me, Rio Bravo Mayor Vela and Commissioner Montemayor were free to talk and were never interrupted. I want to acknowledge the professionalism in which Mayor Vela of Rio Bravo, City Commissioner Aguero (Rio Bravo) and Rio Bravo City Secretary Peguero carried themselves with despite the attacks and interruptions. When I was asked about a possible lawsuit, I clearly stated that the solution is to work together and speak out. If the will of the people is to demand better quality of water and services then I am on board and I have committed myself to introduce a resolution in support. I did mention and was quoted in the news that a lawsuit sends a powerful message that the people are upset, they want answers and better services; "however there are other alternatives to filing a lawsuit and that there should be more communication and working relationships between the county and both cities." The part in parenthesis did not air in the interview on Fox News. I want to reassure the communities of El Cenizo and Rio Bravo that both governing bodies and Webb County are working diligently to address the situation as soon as possible.
