Im currently 31 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I lost my 2nd child in utero because of GBS at 38 weeks pregnant. This time around, I made sure I was followed by a specialist at the hospitals high risk pregnancy clinic and that we had a risk management plan to work with before I even got pregnant. During my first trimester, GBS showed up in one of my urine cultures and the doctor prescribed antibiotics right away, as per our plan. Last week, it showed up again, but the student doctor in front of me was trying to convince me that the amount of GBS found was insignificant and that I didnt need antibiotics before delivery. Then she started questionning the results of the autopsy which clearly say that the most probable cause of the chorioamnionitis was GBS. I couldnt believe my ears!!! I told her to stop right there and get the specialist because I wasnt leaving without a prescription! When the specialist came in, she came with the prescription in her hand :-) I understand that this is a teaching hospital, but Im in no mood right now to put up with some of those student doctors who just dont seem to understand how serious GBS can be!!! And no way am I loosing another baby to this disease!!! (Sorry, but I needed to vent a little.) Keep up your work to raise awareness of doctors and other medical professionals about GBS; its important! :-)
