Im currently sifting through my brain trying to work out if a TV show has a better theme tune than Game of Thrones? So I thought id make a list, (in no particular order) of my favourite theme tunes from TV shows. 1. Game of Thrones. The consensus in my house is that the GoT opening credits go on to long. Which does a discredit to Qarth and Erros frankly but its 30 seconds more given to the tribal awesomeness of the theme. It sums up the show brilliantly - from the way it gently begins to the way it explodes near the end. Here is a summary of how the theme tune goes: nah, nah, nah nah nah, nah nah nah, nah nah, nah nah nah, nah nah nah 2. Quantum Leap. The theme to Leap normally follows Sam Beckett saying oh boy. In any other context, this theme would be shit elevator music, but with the awesome graphics (the years with different historical characters) and Bakula himself becoming a blue steam Jesus, it works. Heres a summary of the theme: do do do do do do do do do, do do do do do do do, do doo do do do do do do do, (awesome sax ending bit) 3. Airwolf. Airwolf is a show about a helicopter that can talk and is driven by Michael Knight. No of course it isnt, but it might as well be, as (and this is my opinion) Airwolf wasnt great. Theres only so many times a helicopter can turn up and save the day before it gets silly. It ran for three seasons from 84 to 87 and they even changed the theme tune in season three as the bloke they paid wanted more money probably. But the theme! The theme was awesome. Those 30 seconds made you wish the next 30 minutes wouldnt be as shit as last week. Heres a summary: daaaaaaaaaa, da da dad a da, da dad a da, duh duh duh duh, da dad a da, dad a daaaaaaa 4. Knightrider. Yes. Hasselhoff in his greatest ever role, driving a smart alecky car that can talk. Man, I wish MY car could talk. But then itll all be stop riding the clutch you putz and Clair washes me and treats me nice but you just dont care anymore. Anywho, Knight Rider was not about a helicopter, as some suggest, but more about the sarcastic twat KITT. To be honest, its like having Siri mug you off with everything you do. Though Id have pushed the script a bit further. Michael, that leather jacket makes you look like a ponce. Theme tune summary: swish woosh, swish swoosh, badum badum badum, badum, badum, badum badum badum, swish woosh 5. Breaking Bad. Oh man, oh man. Im currently vicariously living BB again through a pal at work who just WW in a book. Im giddy for him but sad its all ending. I felt actual loss or grief when it ended, so I imagine others do too. The haunting guitars and the rattle, signifying the deserts of Alburqueque set it up so beautifully. Also, Ill maintain and debate that Walter is the greatest tv character of all time, so obviously this is in my list. Best TV show ever? Your god damn right Summary: Bow bowwwwww, now bowwwwwww, ba ba da bum. (Rattle plays) - Of course honourable mentions go to Star Trek (all of them), Dallas, Grange Hill, Dr Who (awesome theme shame about the shitty show) and the A-Team.
