“Im dreaming of a White Christmas Just like the ones I used to - TopicsExpress

“Im dreaming of a White Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow. Im dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white. Im dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white.” White Christmas a song for the season. The song was written by Irving Berlin and the version sung by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single of all time. Dave Schimpf had put a post on Facebook asking, “What Christmas songs we like to sing to?” Several different songs were mentioned but White Christmas was voted twice, one of them mine. Then yesterday just out of the blue my wife, who rarely sings anymore, started singing this song and she has such a beautiful voice. However you will never get her to admit it. Well what is taking shape this week? The Lions passed another test this past Sunday. Although I am sure many fans either used SOL several times during the game or shouted obscenities or both. However in the end the Lions were able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat knocking off the Minnesota Vikings 16-14. I have to admit it was far from pretty. After all the Vikings were up 14-0 before the Lions even had a 1st down. However the defense clamped down and the offense did just enough to win. Time will tell if this is a transformation but I have to admit this is probably a game the SOL would have normally lost. The bottom line this was a win. Now the next test is this Sunday in Chicago when the Lions take on a Bears team that seems to be falling apart at the seams. A win in one of the last two games guarantees the Lions a ticket to the dance. Their ticket could already be punched on Saturday if the Redskins could somehow upset the Eagles. There is another scenario that we could be looking at but we will talk about that next week and follow Coach Caldwell directive of one game at a time. The Detroit Red Wings who seem to have be in some kind of mini slump having lost 4 in a row take on the New York Islanders tonight. Besides the Wings losing streak they are facing a team that just happens to be 7-1-1 against the Wings in the last 9 games between these two. Following tonight’s game the Wings remain at home taking on the Colorado Avalanche Sunday at 6:00 pm, then next Tuesday the Wings take on Buffalo. Detroit will then be off until after Christmas. Detroit needs to start winning these home games as the schedule gets much tougher in January when 19 of their 26 games will be on the road. The Pistons, if anyone cares other than my mom have a couple of games before Christmas. They take on the Toronto Raptors tonight at the Palace and then travel to Brooklyn on Sunday to take on the Nets, another 6:00 pm start time. The Pistons then enter their Christmas break. The magical time for college football season starts this weekend, yes I am talking “Bowl Season”. This Saturday kicks off a string of 39 bowl games. The first bowl is Saturday morning, the New Orleans Bowl. It then concludes with the National Championship game on January 12, 2015. MSU is in the Cotton Bowl Classic against Baylor on January 1, 2015. I scanned all 39 bowls and could not find Michigan anywhere. Then I remembered, “Oh yeah you have to win 6 games to be bowl eligible. That is a .500 record. I guess that is just one of the reasons we are looking for a new coach. Christmas will have come and gone by the time of my next Friday post. So let me take this opportunity to wish all a very Merry Christmas. TGIF!!!
