Im feeling inspired and awakened. Thankful for moments in history that urge, nudge and compel us to remember, revisit and reignite flames that often die down due to developing social amnesia, social arrogance and social blindness. Grateful to the makers of Selma and the remarkable producers and actors, as well the courageous named characters and the heroic unnamed persons who were very present in history. Feeling overflowing thanksgiving, however, feeling some kind of way about many African American actors and movies being overlooked in the Academy. Although I am beyond grateful for progress that must be celebrated, I also long to see Black films, TV shows and actors being celebrated for roles that go beyond the roles of gangsters, domestic workers and mistresses. We can not be OK with being agreement with what is award winning to some because they do not identify with the struggle or value the experience. The beauty, however, is the settled peace in knowing who you are and that no man or woman can take anything away from people of hope, passion, intelligence and endurance. We have a story that matters and must reinsert the pages into history that has often been removed. It involves agony and awesomeness and its our story to tell and we shall continue. # we shall overcome. # # be the change you want to see. ### may Kings holiday be everyday as a lifestyle. ####thxselma4awakening!
