Im fired up about the ongoing suspension of football players for their stupid but NOT CRIMINAL behavior off the field. In college its Jameis Winston. In the NFL, the list is too long to recite here. Im mainly concerned with the college example, which is based purely on SPEECH. Now I hate the Florida Seminoles and also blow hard players like Winston. But step back and think about this: a foolish 20-year-old Heisman winner and candidate and leader of the team was suspended from the game last Saturday because he yelled out in the cafeteria F--- her in the p----. What is GOING ON in this prissy country !? Let the jerk say whatever he wants to say (first amendment protects most speech, with the exception of things like fighting words libel, and slander and obscenity which the U.S. Supreme Court has never satisfactorily defined). I submit that the jerk Winston did not utter speech unprotected by the 1st Amendment. All he did was be offensive. So what?? Im so sick of prissy America and its PC monitoring and punishing of those who dont comply with groupthink . Its 1984, man! If I were Jameis Winston I would say screw this team and university ! I QUIT! I say that off-field behavior, especially protected SPEECH, should NOT influence an athletes eligibility! All of this led me to recall the moronic Goshen HS code of conduct we athletes of any sport were required to sign. Andy Graff and I not only refused to sign it, we condemned it in a spiteful yet logical opinion piece in the student newspaper: The Tomahawk! So you see, this recent puritanical trend goes back to 1980s...nay! Back to our founding fathers and the Constitution and its Bill of Rights...
