Im forwarding this off of Ct moms in Redding.. Emergency Board of Ed meeting. Friday, April 11, 5 pm at JRMS Situation regarding Redding school budget: On Monday night the Board of Finance rejected the Board of Education budget, saying a 1.6% reduction was not enough. They are demanding another $300,000 eliminated from the budget, to bring the budget down by 3%. To go beyond 1.6%, breaks the state MBR statute, resulting in investigations, excessive fines and unknown litigation costs. To enable this to happen, Ward Mazzucco stated he wants Redding schools to follow the Easton model. Bernie mentioned Easton differs from Redding in that Redding offers programs like gifted and talented, language programs through grade 5, paras in technology, early intervention, many music programs etc.... On another note, Kim Yonkers of the Board of Finance mentioned that she wants the Board of Ed to immediately begin looking at closing one school, if not both schools, in favor of busing kids to an Easton based region 9 elementary and middle school - similar to how the high school is designed. Anyways, I dont care what side you are on, just make sure make your voice is heard. Write to Board of Ed members. Write to the First Selectman, Julia Pemberton. Write to the Board of Finance members. Best of all show up! There will be an emergency Board of Ed this Friday, 5 pm at JRMS.
