Im getting lazy, its true. Heres the update: Elizas new GJ was still leaking, and I swear it was even worse. So we went back down to Intervention Radiology (IR) on Wednesday to see what the deal was. The radiologist took one look at the tube and said, Its too big. Basically, there was too much room between the outside of the tube and the balloon, which is on the inside of the stomach. The balloon creates the seal so that nothing (or very little) leaks out. But if the tube is too big then it will move around too much, and the balloon cant stay against the stomach wall. SO, Eliza had another tube exchange. She did not get her happy meds this time, but actually did very well! So proud of her. She only cried when they made her turn on her side, and at the point the second new tube was already in! Such a brave girl. As far as the sleeping goes... well, melatonin did NOT work. They started her on a very small dose, and the increase was not very big either. So after 2 nights of lost sleep, I told the team, If were going to try melatonin, then lets TRY it. I need to know if its going to work or not, because if it doesnt I would like to move on to something else. So they gave her a nice big dose of melatonin, and it did not work. So we moved on. The second drug we tried was clonadine. Shes been on the patch before, which made her crazy. The sleep dose, however, didnt do anything. It was a very small dose also, but apparently they couldnt give her much. So after 2 failed nights on clonadine, we went to something else. Now we are trying trazadone. Trazadone can be used to treat depression, but can also be used for sleep. Eliza is getting the sleep dose. Andrew stayed with Eliza the last 2 nights, and from what he has said Eliza did sleep better. She still woke up several times overnight, but for the most part went back to sleep quickly. So well stick with this for a while, and see what happens.
