Im going to rant, because this is annoying me. Thanks to the media, which likes to sensationalize everything now - I would just like to say that everyone should always know that the flu shot is not guaranteed 100%, this has never been some hidden information, they do their best, they cannot predict accurately always on what flu strain will be going around. The flu shot never is supposed to not let you get sick like some think, you can still get sick (especially since when most people say they have the flu it isnt the actual influenza) - the flu shot helps protect you against what they expect to be the most dangerous flu strains for that year. You can even still catch them but you are unlikely to get as sick. The virus mutated this year, that isnt something they can predict. There are multiple dangerous strains the flu shot is designed to protect you against. Just because there is one strain that isnt in the flu shot that is going around doesnt mean at all that it still wont protect you from other dangerous strains and make your sickness easier if you do contract it. Also, the actual flu, that the shot is designed to protect against, is not a stomach flu. Its respiratory, which turns into pneumonia, which turns into many other problems, even death. Since any respiratory infection in my home can be deadly, we will continue getting our flu shots every year. My healthiest years have been the years I have been vaccinated, and if people arent vaccinated against the flu, they arent allowed in our home during the winter months. Neither is anybody who has been sick, or around anyone that has been sick, must be symptom free for 72 hours - that goes for all year. If people would just stay home when they are sick, that would help too. Vaccines are made to help the immune compromised, young and elderly. We see it first hand. We used not get the flu shot either, but if there is something that might let my son survive a better healthier life, we do it, and we wish everyone that could, would.
