Hi Desert Moon, My name is Jane and I am originally from London. When I was 10 years old my family moved to South Africa. I have lived in Saudi Arabia for a number of years and I am truly fascinated with Middle Eastern culture. Last year I converted into the Islamic religion. I am blessed to be able to finally see the light. During my stay in the Kingdom I have noticed so many things particularly with western expats who have no clue about what it means to be a Muslim. There are many blogs out there of Western women married to Saudi men and my word they portray Saudi culture in a bad light. It is a case of these women coming to the Kingdom, becoming Muslim to please their husbands family. They then use the internet as a medium to voice their negative opinions about Saudi and Muslims in general. Most of these blogs portray Saudis as barbaric individuals, backward. My question to these women is this: what makes your culture and traditions back in the USA or Europe so superior over someone elses. Western people have no culture or tradition. These Western women enter Saudi and wish to change the mindset and thinking of Saudi women. Why impose your cultural beliefs and western ideologies on a group of traditional women. A friend of mine recently became a Muslim. Of course she converted to please her hubby and Saudi in laws. Frankly speaking, she only married the man for his class and status in society. I cant quite comprehend how can a person be a Muslim and yet at the same time, scamper around Jeddah trying to find a Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas. You either a Muslim or a Christian. You cant be both. Keeping dogs in the house, to eating non kosher dishes when traveling outside Saudi is basically how these women conduct their lives. I am wondering, has anyone else noticed this as well whilst residing in the Middle East?
