Im going to try to explain this the best way I can. We met with Neurosurgery yesterday and Kamerons MRI results show that within the last 6 months, Kameron has developed a new Syrnix(a cyst filled collection of spinal fluid) in his spinal cord. The Syrnix is so large that there is a total blockage of spinal fluid from reaching several of the different ventricles in his brain. If untreated, this can cause permanent brain and spinal cord damage. Kamerons surgeon is up in the air as to way this is happening. He was pretty positive that the last brain surgery Kameron had would give him relief for atleast some time, we were not expecting this at all. He has scheduled him for surgery on the 28th. He cannot give me a length of time for the surgery as he is not sure what he will encounter once he gets in there. But he did say that Kameron has a significant amount of scar tissue that is putting a large amount of pressure and strain on Kamerons brain and will be removing as much as he can. He will also be removing more of the skull bone at the base of his head, as well as using some of the muscle from Kamerons neck as a patch to make the sac around his brain larger, to help relieve some of the pressure. If this surgery fails, Kameron will require another surgery to try to drain the syrnix but inserting a shunt and redirecting the flow of spinal fluid to his brain. Kameron and I are meeting with another Neurosurgeon on Tuesday for another opinion to be sure that these are our only options as both surgeries carry very high risks, but so does not doing anything at all. So we have to be sure that we are making the right decisions and doing what is best for Kameron.
