Im gonna be honest here. I think using the term best in anything - TopicsExpress

Im gonna be honest here. I think using the term best in anything is a very subjective thing to do. In order for you to deem something as the best in any category, you have to be pretty much objectifying whatever it is youre giving that title to. Whether it be out of your personal opinion, or preference. Assigning favorites is the same way, and as such, when people ask me for a favorite from any genre of anything, I usually just end up listing a top 10 based on either things I remember, or things that are literally phenomenal. That being said, making a top 10 based on things that are phenomenal to you, and probably only to you, is also biased. So, I think, as a society it would be better for us to do away with this besting and favoritism. Take for example someone saying Call of Duty Black Ops is the best FPS game of all time well, you just completely subjectified that game. Congratulations, youre giving a game a best ranking probably completely based on your opinions. Also, sales are not a validation of a games supposed ranking as best. Sure, it may be the best selling thing on earth, but that doesnt make it better than everything else. Everyone has their own subjectified visions of everything, and in order to keep people from fighting, we should just tone down our best of lists, and stop favoring things that we perceive as good. Things that are bad can sell well..... thats just part of nature. The culture around you affects all your decisions on buying things, whether you admit it or not. Advertising campaigns are made to give you a delusion of something being cool. Im using CoD as an example because that cash cow of a game series has single handedly turned every other FPS game in recent years into a copycat cavalcade of multiplayer madness. Look, Im all for you guys enjoying your multiplayer, but you are not every single gamer in existence. Some people like a single player mission, WITH STORY. Game are an art form, they should evoke emotions in some way. And no, being pissed that someone fragged you is not what Im talking about. Either way, I stand by the fact that we should disposition ourselves from using subjective terms such as Best and favorite; all it does is cause fights and arguments.
