Im gonna be rather blunt (and Im somehow going to do it without swearing). I recently made a comment towards a relatively large friend of mine (in private, after she said she did want to hear what I had to say, honestly) about how she might want to take better care of herself and she did not receive it well. After posting on a variety of social medias about how Im a fat shamer and have no tolerance who people who want to love their bodies and themselves I felt a bit antagonized. I really dont like that pop media and people with a certain degree of notoriety are telling women (and men really) that its perfectly okay to be incredibly unhealthy. I spent a good part of my life being unhealthy, going without exercise and thankfully my parents fed me well enough to where I wasnt beyond repair because I cant imagine what wouldve happened to me otherwise. Having just started treating my body with a little more respect Ive started to really understand the value of taking care of yourself, and having said that I really dont appreciate that people are starting to not only become comfortable with being so unhealthy, but now some people are actually promoting unhealthy lifestyles and telling people that its okay to be unhealthy and you should demand that other people accept the fact that youre going to knowingly continue to be unhealthy. I understand that some of this may be the obese community rallying to remain strong against those who are in fact indecent towards them, but I still dont think its appropriate to just be okay with being that big. Whats even more frustrating for me is that skinny people get bullied too, and they get treated just as poorly but they dont go around telling people that being skinny is okay or acceptable. By stating that people who are overweight or obese should love themselves the way they are is quite simply promoting a lifestyle that will inhibit those members of society for their entire lives, and I dont think its a good thing to do. So if anyone decides to call me a fat shamer for telling someone whos unhealthy that theyre being unhealthy, Im sorry to say that youre just another part of the problem.
