Im in a philosophical frame of mind tonight. So, here goes... When a little ant crawls across my keyboard, or monitor, or hand, or up the side of my drink as they have been doing the last couple of days, and I squish him and brush the body away, do you think one of his buddies somewhere later says, Hey, have you seen nowdeadant lately? I dont think he came back from patrol... and another ant says nah, hes probably just running late--maybe he found something really good...? I guess the reason I am thinking of this is that my kids had an ant farm once and as the little ants died off, the survivors would bury them... I had a friend who had an ant farm and she said she noticed as they died, the survivors would push them off into a separate room they had dug out. When it came down to only two ants, the last one alive struggled to drag the dead one to the edge and push him off. But then... although he was still alive, he jumped off into the dead room, knowing (presumably) no one was left to bury him.... That story haunts me.
