Im just gonna repost this and slink off to bed. I am really drained right now and this is NOT how I wanted my awesome weekend to end. -------------- Hi! I have NVLD (Non-Verbal Learning Disorder)! I’m considered neuroatypical, and for some folks, I’m considered to be on the autism spectrum. Either way, I’m neuroatypical! The word “ret*rded” used to be a medical term for us, but over time, it was twisted into a negative word. It recently — RECENTLY — /stopped/ being a medical word, but it is still tied to people on the spectrum. So, obviously, using this word is bad! When people on the spectrum aren’t acting 100% neurotypical, you know what they’re called? Ret*rded. And people know this word hurts! It’s directed to people like me, and it’s meant to harm us. So, no, you don’t get to use it because “definitions change.” People still use ret*rd to describe us. So, stop being assholes and use ‘asinine’ or ‘absurd.’ Those are more fun words anyways. There’s lots of other options too — ones you don’t have to use at the expense of people like me. c: Have a lovely day.
