Im not 100% sure about this, but my impression is that they are going to send the new proposal directly to the Bishop. Im not sure if we parents are going to have an opportunity to voice our opinions about it. I hope this is not the case. Unless this proposal is complete autonomy for each school, its time to resist and protest. I believe that some people think that religious organizations are above such things like money and politics. My personal belief is that a blind eye is utilized by people because, of course, our religion should be above reproach. Unfortunately though, it isnt. What is going on here is a clear example of it. All of us are very proud of our schools and the outstanding education our children receive. Many of us have multi generational histories with the school, and the parish it is associated with. Somewhere along the way, the historical relationship between each school and its parish is getting lost. My feeling is, that if the parish gives up its schools unique identity, letting it slip into this economical/political fiasco, the parish Church will suffer. Im quite sure that parents who send their children to a parish school, also attend Mass at that parishs Church. The unique relationship between the school and its Church is umbilical. One cant survive without the other. We parents, chose to send our children to the school we felt best fit what the vision of our childrens educational and religious teachings should be. We pay for them to go there, we are the shareholders of the school. We participate in fundraising, we attend various functions to help raise more money for the school. Why ? Because its OUR school, we are the majority shareholders. It is with a sense of pride and blessings that we help our school. We want to help see her thrive. This attitude should permeate to the parish as well. So, if this proposal is anything but three independent schools, I fear for the longevity of Catholic Education in Webster. I would not be at all surprised if the well being of the Churches would suffer as well. So here I am, ready to defend my school until I cant fight anymore. I am filled with the Holy Spirit. I will fight for the educators that my children have formed bonds with. Remember, everyone makes mistakes, from the Pope all the way down to me. I firmly believe that any type of merger will bring dour consequences nobody believed would happen. Let us unite and resist. Peace, Gil Guay
