Im not going to use the word gray to describe the weather across - TopicsExpress

Im not going to use the word gray to describe the weather across the state today. Instead, Ill use dreary as that is what if feels like outside. Thick clouds, rain, drizzle and even a rumble of thunder in the southeast part of the state. A cold front is pushing through the state this morning and is approaching central sections at 9:00 am. The front will continue moving southeast slowly and should be exiting the eastern and SE sections by this evening. Temps range from the mid 30s in the NW to near 60 in the south this morning. In central AR temperatures at 9:00 are in the mid 50s and that is about it for the day as well see a slow fall into the 40s by afternoon and bottom out in the upper 30s Sunday morning. Rain will continue ahead of and behind the frontal system as low pressure develops south of the state and moves NE. The rain may mix with a little winter precipitation in NW AR as snow/sleet in OK moves NE and may clip the NW corner. At this time, no travel problems are anticipated due to above freezing surface temps and warm ground temps..but it will be watched for lowering temps below freezing which may cause a few issues on bridges. Rain and drizzle will continue tonight and over about the SE half of the state on Sunday with clouds over most of the state except for some clearing across the west and NW as high pressure and drier air moves in. Temps on Sunday will be in the 30s and 40s. Sunshine may return on Monday with seasonable temperatures. Colder air is still forecast to move into the state in the middle of next week, but the extent of the cold temps is still questionable. It will be colder than it is now, but were not looking at anything record breaking. Highs are forecast to be in the 30s on Wednesday and Thursday with overnight lows in the 20s and possibly some teens in the NW. A new storm system will be moving closer to the state late next week with more rain chances. There remains the possibility of some winter weather with the north and NW favored, but it will depend on the eventual track of the storm system and how much cold air is left. Models this morning are showing a warmer track of the storm (north of AR) with mainly rain and some sleet or freezing rain at times in the north. This isnt looking like a big system for AR but if the track changes and colder air is deeper, things could change. Ill continue to monitor. Try to enjoy the dreary weather today and stay warm and dry.
