Im not much into reading obits, but when Troop 129 came up in an earlier post, I did some fishing for information to locate the correct link to our (possession noted) troops Facebook page. Here is an obit of John (Jack) Drummond. I am not sure I appreciated all that the grown ups poured into us back then. Here is the read: DRUMMOND, John (Jack, Jr.), passed away March 24, 2003 in New Port Richey, Fla. where he had lived for the past 25 and a half years. Jack was born in Paisley, Scotland on Oct. 9, 1909 and grew up in Detroit, Mich. Jack worked at Chrysler, starting with Briggs for 43 years where he was a metal model maker. Jack was a Boy Scout in Detroit and a member of the Hannah YMCA growing up and later became involved with the Masons, serving as one of the youngest Presidents of his lodge. He also became active with the Boy Scouts where he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 129 at Wayne Elementary School in Detroit. Later Jack served as a neighborhood commissioner, representative for Organization and Extension. He also filled a need for a merit badge counselor for unusual badge requests. Jack worked with the winter Klondike Derby in the 50s and developed a nature-training course for Scout leaders. Jack furthered his leadership training by attending programs at Philmont Scout Ranch in N.E. New Mexico in 1955 and Wood Badge Training in Wisconsin. The Boy Scouts awarded the Silver Beaver to Jack for outstanding work as a volunteer. Silver Beaver is the highest award Scouting gives to a volunteer leader. Additionally, Jack was active in Michigan Audubon, Michigan Botanical Club, where he was a life member and served as State President, a Detroit camera club, and the Rec. Lab program in southeast Michigan. Jack also taught three levels of American Red Cross First Aid. In Florida he was active in West Pasco Audubon Society, a camera club, and the West Pasco Historical Museum wher e he was a life member and a board member and a local discussion group called News and Views. He was also involved with starting Hernando-Pasco Hospice in 1984 and active with RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), National Council of Senior Citizens, UAW, AARP, and life member of Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida. Jack was preceded by his wife of 58 years, Torino in 1993, and a daughter Virginia in 1959. He is survived by his son, Robert of Harrison Township, Mich.; and a granddaughter Jill Shopinski of Eastpointe, Mich. Memorial requests to the Gideons International, Box 314, Mt. Clemens, Michigan
