Im not one for normally using FB as a sounding board, but there is something that has been bothering me that I just want to put out there. If you have a moment, please read on... It is truly disheartening to wake up every day to more violence in the news. In this particular case, I am referring to all of the violent acts involving law enforcement. My father is a police officer and has served his community for almost 30 years. Those of you who have met my dad know that he is an incredibly kind, honest, and understanding person, who brings these qualities to his job. He is the epitome of serve and protect. I was raised in a household where you learned that police officers are your friends, who are there to help you and keep you safe. It never really hits you, after living with it for so long, that he puts his life on the line everyday he goes to work when you read about all of the events happening in NYC, Fergusson, etc. The thought that my dad, who I love, potentially could be shot and killed by a complete stranger just because of the uniform he wears is numbing. I am not choosing a side in this debate of who is right and who is wrong. Rather, I am starting my own side. Violence in turn of violence solves nothing. Rev Sharpton stated that an eye for an eye will leave the world blind. I couldnt agree more. I implore all of you to remember that one example does not define the entirety. There are bad cops in the world, as there are bad teachers, doctors, etc. This does not mean they all are. I am also not going to try to relate to those growing up or living in different circumstances. I dont know what it is like to live in a hood and I wont pretend to. Everybody comes from different backgrounds and situations, but I feel that violence as a solution is simply wrong for all. We are not animals. My heart goes out to all of the families of the victims and police officers of those affected by acts of violence. I keep reading about statements and movements using phrases such as Black Lives Matter and NYC Police Lives Matter. My response to this is simply this: ALL LIVES MATTER I wish you all a wonderful holiday season.
