Im not sure I understand what is so sub-par about these insurance - TopicsExpress

Im not sure I understand what is so sub-par about these insurance policies that are being cancelled due to Obamacare. I purchased individual healthcare insurance on the private market for many years. I was always pleased with it. As a healthy, young male, I was looking for catastrophic coverage. I didnt care about low co-pay, as I rarely had a Dr visit. I didnt need maternity or contraceptive coverage because...well...the policy covered ME, and Im a male. :/ I CHOSE to purchase a plan with a reasonably high deductible and total out of pocket costs, because it kept the monthly premium low. The monthly premium was my most -likely- interaction with the insurance company, but I had coverage for a catastrophic event should I need it. I wasnt looking for a plan that would let me visit the Dr for free, every time I had a runny nose, or caught a cold. I wanted CATASTROPHIC insurance coverage, in case something horrible happened. $10,000, $12,000 max out of pocket cap? I was fine with that. For that amount, I can work with the providers on a payment plan. Sure, Id rather buy a motorcycle, truck, guns, etc with that money, but hey...life happens. That was MY CHOICE. I was very happy with my Blue Cross/Blue Shield, sub $100/month, individual market, privately purchased, CATASTROPHIC health insurance policy. It was exactly what I wanted, based on my expected needs / finances, for many years out of my life. It turned out exactly as I thought it would (minimal usage, minimal expense). It was -catastrophic insurance-. Thats it. I knew this, I chose this, it worked out great for me. I dont expect to get a bunch of crap, including my healthcare, for free. I -understood- that I would have a debt, an obligation, should something big happen. I chose an upper cap to the amount that I was comfortable with ($10k, $12k, whatever it was), and purchased an affordable policy. I didnt need, or want, a policy that wiped my butt, and tucked me in to bed at night. I can handle that myself, thankyouverymich. That policy would not be allowed today. Its one of those sub par, high deductible, high out of pocket, low benefits policies that are rendered illegal under Obamacare. Because...you know...how dare -I- choose the type of coverage I want, based on my family health history, risk analysis, and financial situation. No, Im too dumb to know whats best for me. I to stupid to realize my policy failed me somehow, over all those years. I still havent figured out how it failed me, but it must have...the Democrats said so. Silly me...I was always quite pleased with it. Thank goodness they have now enacted a law to show me the error of my ways. Thank goodness they know that Im better served by a policy that costs 3x as much, and provides me with contraceptive coverage, and maternal coverage. Dumbasses.
