Im really happy that climate change is becoming something that people are starting to care about in large numbers, more publicly. I think many of us were passionate about it before (and yes, kudos to Al Gore and the Inconvenient Truth), but now its becoming even more of a media darling with good sound bites by people like (bless him!) Leonard DiCaprio. Lots of people still seem to think that caring about the environment is a silly, white-bread, liberal tree hugger thing, but I believe it is truly the next real civil and social justice movement. Most power plants that spew out dreadful stuff for people to breathe (and which deteriorate our global atmosphere), dangerous fracking-related coal train depots, waste transfer stations, and other industrial receptacles intended to address the terrible way we already treat our planet end up in...urban, low-income areas where people are disenfranchised and cant fight back. We really need to work on this now, before its too late (and many scientists think it is already...), and realize that our entire basic life on this Earth depends on clean air, potable water, and uncontaminated land, along with efforts to stop depleting our planets atmosphere and creating conditions that will continue to foster the strange, dramatic and all too often tragic extreme weather events we have all witnessed in recent years with increasing frequency. theguardian/environment/2014/sep/23/leonarodo-dicaprio-un-climate-change-speech-new-york
