WHY WE HATE THE STORE By: Boone Cutler September 13, 2013 The store is an exhaustive nightmare and if you are like me; youll love this. All others might learn something new. Forget calling it shopping; a store is a chaotic obstacle in my world. Negotiating a store is a nightmare because people are completely unaware of their surroundings so they bump in to others routinely or leave their cart in a place that prevents passing. Making it a physical obstacle course of sorts because I have to dodge clueless people running into me. Next is the mental obstacle of politely saying excuse me when Id rather say something more military oriented. Then comes the psychological obstacles. Just being in an unfamiliar building for more than 20 minutes is a trigger on a bad day. Few realize that the light colored tile floors that shine amplify the same light that gives people with TBI a headache. I have TBI and Im photophobic. Having PTSD usually means we like to keep people and movement in front of us so we dont get startled; however, its nearly impossible to not feel nervous and surrounded in most stores. For some reason, people feel okay about moving towards others without a prior agreement and common protocol and it makes me question every move people make. Multiple conversations going on possibly in more than one language always consumes my attention. People dont realize how erratic they move when they shop; reaching in various unusual directions draws attention. Erratic behavior consumes my attention. Stores use overhead loud speakers and send codes that I dont know and they drive me nuts because they could be saying robbery on isle five and I wouldnt know it. All these things draw my almost absolute attention. The store is exhausting. After all that, then comes the line. The line freaks me out for all the previous reasons plus distance to others is always too close, being channeled sucks and sure-as-shit, I get blocked in 7 out of 10 times. These are all triggers for me. See what I mean about exhausting? I HATE THE STORE BECAUSE ITS AN EXHAUSTIVE OBSTACLE COURSE !!! !!! All the way, Boone Written: September 13, 2013
