Im so angry and heartbroken right now along with being ashamed of the people in my community. I always tell people we dont see things in my neighborhood like I do in the 5th ward and today we did. This poor girl was staggering in the middle of Broadway Rd while cars went around her. Not one of them stopped. I guess its easier to ignore a living thing that is dying in a horrific way then help it. I am so glad that my mom and Dylan had the courage to stop in the middle of the road, holding up traffic to get her. My mom called and asked if I would take her to the vet because she couldnt handle it (she is not a field rescuer). I agreed and rushed her to Gulfgate and I was actually hopeful. Even though she reeked of infection and death I thought we have seen them live through worse before. I was sadly mistaken. Poor Broadway was most likely de-gloved a week to two weeks ago when she was hit by a car. She wasnt even 5lbs because she cant eat or drink due to the pain from her injuries. She was severely dehydrated. The jaw had so much infection that not only was the bone exposed it was dead. We did the most humane thing we could and helped her to cross the rainbow bridge. THIS is what is wrong with our society, not enough people value life unless its their own. How do you hit an animal and leave it without checking? How do you see an animal like this walking around and do nothing? RIP Broadway I am sorry we didnt find you a week or two ago when you were first injured and could have been saved. No more pain and suffering sweet girl rest well.
