Im so excited to share that the 4th issue of my mag Laika Magazine launched yesterday. (I wanted to post this yesterday, but was too exhausted to stand (or sit). This is going to be a little long, but I have to... When I first started this, it was an experiment, something I was compelled to do, and wasnt thinking beyond the first issue. When I understood there had to be more, and how much work all this would involve, I kept telling myself just get to #4... That #4 became some kind of mythical number on the horizon, wasnt sure I could reach, I times it felt impossible. But thats the fun of it, to try to do what at first feels impossible. And thats what this whole thing has been, in spite of the challenges, the obstacles - FUN. Creating for something you believe in is a joy and fun that cant be articulated. To stand back and realize its finally here - #4- feels surreal. Thank you: To my sister Stacy Gueraseva for writing a flawless cover story that is one of the most engaging pieces of writing Ive ever come across in my life; to Andrew Stiles for shooting an amazing cover and feature that went beyond my hopes and dreams; Mike Hrinewski for your beautiful photography and writing in Will To Live, and for being humble despite enormous talent; Mike Stura for your powerful essay and for all the tremendous good you do for animals; Sophie Lucido Johnson for juggling illustration and writing in The Futurists with such finesse and for taking on a challenge so readily; Joel Barhamand and Ash Barhamand for being brilliant photographers each and every time, and for making the shoots for my little vegan magazine feel as though theyre for Vogue; Liz Polden for your gorgeous styling and your positive energy; Lauren Perlstein for shooting yet another stunning fashion story; Balarama Heller for photographing multiple subjects beautifully with equal care and dedication; Gretchen Primack for your overwhelmingly poignant poem; Michelle Collins for being such a joy to work with; Colin Hornett for yet again exceeding my expectations with your beautiful images . Thank you to everyone who has ever supported this magazine and has ever said a kind word of encouragement - you have no idea what a difference it made. My wish is for this magazine to thrive so that it can serve as an outlet for true creative expression and a vehicle in advocating for compassion. I learned so much doing this. Most importantly, that we are without a doubt meant to co-exist with our fellow earthlings on this planet—the animals, and with each other. Im more determined than ever to try to help make this a reality. Its somewhere on the horizon now, but I know we can get there.
