Im so filled with gratitude for Shadow work. Scorpio energy is the perfect time of year for Shadow work, isnt it? And this full moon has been the perfect time to shine a light on the things in the shadows that can be seen, acknowledge, integrated and released. Over the past several months, I have become more and more aware of my Shadow aspects. My hero, Carl Jung, coined the term Shadow to refer to the aspects of our psyche that are rejected or denied in ourselves, and which, either largely or entirely, are NOT CONSCIOUS TO US. (These can even be good things - hidden abilities and talents and aspects of us that we have denied for various reasons.) We dont see them. They are our blind spots. As a tiny, perfect child we entered this world. Innocent. And without guile. As a tiny infant we know nothing but to be authentic. At some point, we experienced pain, guilt, or shaming from our, (oft-times) well-intentioned parents, siblings, caregivers or other people in our life. The message to us is loud and clear - it is not safe to be _________________. Some aspect of ourself is simply not acceptable. And the good things they want for us: hopes, dreams, behaviors, expectations are projected upon us, even when they may not FEEL authentic to what WE desire. And the message is: you are this way; I wish you were that way... and ultimately I am not good enough. Its not okay to be me. Pretty soon we have developed a schism between who we are as an authentic being and between what is safe, acceptable, and **rewarded**. Many people live their lives convinced they are the persona they have created to keep them safe, acceptable, and rewarded. Not only do they deny to the outer world those shadow aspects of themselves, they even deny those aspects of themselves TO their own self! Shadow work is one of the hardest things I have ever done. It is gut-wrenching. It is devastating. And when I make a breakthrough, it is absolutely beautiful. Many psychologists say that Shadow work is one of the most difficult, but most rewarding things that a person can engage in. I am grateful to be in this space where I am dedicating so much of my time to romancing my own shadow. For I believe it is through loving the Self including the Shadow that we come into Whole-ness. And that is what my Spirit is leading me to do. Much love and joy to you. And if you are a brave enough soul to be digging deep into your shadow, I applaud you! I know it is a lonely and difficult journey at times, but so very worth it! Namaste
