Im so proud of my son King. This week he went to a predominately white hockey camp at University of Michigan in Dearborn. He was the least experienced on the ice (i swear these kids skate like they walk) and was the second to youngest. He had to deal with questions about his locs and the anxiety of making friends. After the first day he told me, Mommy in hockey, i gotta work harder on skating backwards. On the second day, he said Mommy I never gave up, even when it was hard. This morning he told me a great story about dealing with a bully in the camp. The boy who is much taller than him said Im taller than you during dodge ball. And King replied, Yeah, your taller than me as a kid, but when we grow up, youre gonna be a shrimp. Im just done.
