Im stepping on a soapbox for just a minute...I read the title to this list, saw that it somewhat applied to me, and clicked. I got to #7 and didnt go further. True, Ive been in a relationship for almost 4 years, and of the 7 points I read - they were mostly all true. However, I hated it. Its great that the writer of these points has this fantastic relationship where she gets support, gets to study abroad, and still has someone waiting for her when she gets back - that she doesnt have to worry about finding the right guy. She gets to skip straight to the comfort of her relationship. Im not saying that she isnt in love or doesnt have a good relationship; Im looking at a bigger picture. That picture being that she benefits from everything; that she has herself in the forefront of her mind and not her boyfriend. THIS is my problem. Read every point in this list, and she is focusing on you or herself. I think this is the downfall of many relationships today and why so many of them fail or end in divorce. People are too busy focusing on themselves and what THEY want out of the relationship - pleasure, intimacy, stability, a good time - that they fail to see what the other needs, they fail to put the other first, or try to work things out for the BOTH of them. This is not well written, and it may step on some toes, but I hope and pray that people begin to start searching for what makes their significant other happy. That they put him/her first before themselves because their happiness will come after. There is no room for complete selfishness in a relationship, in a mutual relationship that is, for then it becomes a whole other type of relationship - one that wont last long or will remain unhealthy. A relationship is a two way street where two roads merge, but has opposite directions and dotted lines for passing. It wont always be a perk, you have to work for it if you BOTH want it.
