Poor Toby has a tooth abscess. It doesnt seem to be hurting her, - TopicsExpress

Poor Toby has a tooth abscess. It doesnt seem to be hurting her, but she is very swollen on one side of her face. The conventional treatment of a tooth abscess in dogs is surgery to remove the tooth, or a root canal to try to save the tooth, combined with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I am hoping that with natural treatments, I can avoid putting her through all that. For now, I am using a garlic and castor oil compress to try and draw the abscess out. In order for an abscess to heal, we need to drain it. Thank god she is such a good patient - I tie the compress to her head 3 to 4 times a day. It is very stinky - she smells like garlic toast. While it is on, one eye is completely covered and the other eye is just visible. In the beginning, she tried to take it off. However, it is starting to work and the abscess is starting to come to a head. Animals are so intuitive - now she comes over to me to put it on and lies down putting pressure on it while it is on. She doesnt try to take it off any more. If it doesnt rupture by this evening, I am going to give her Hepar Sulph tomorrow (a homeopathic also knows as the homeopathic knife because it helps the body open and drain abscesses.) Once it is open and draining, I think I will use a rosemary tea to treat the wound and clear up the infection. If I dont see a change by next week, we will have to take her in for surgery. But if we can avoid that by encouraging the body to heal naturally, its much less traumatic and invasive, so definitely worth trying. If anyone has had experience with this themselves, let me know. I will keep you all posted as this progresses!
