Im still baffled by the ridicule of Outkasts set at Coachella. Heres my stance. The thing is, people were expecting something different. Outkast has been out the game for a decade, and they were looking for flashy. Outkast is an old school hip hop act, they dont need production to showcase their talent. They explained the props and it was symbolism of past before they became big today, and the critics ripped that apart. They also dissed the special guests they brought. I was laughing, aside from future- sleepy brown, farnsworth Bentley, and Janelle Monae is exactly whom they should bring. They also said that Andre seemed disinterested. He was excited and hype, and then he gave up on the crowd, and just did it for the sake of himself and being the artist he is. The crowd didnt deserve a set like that, spanning from Southernplayalisticmusic, Aquemini, Atliens, and more. I mean they were hipsters who were waiting for Hey Ya, who had no business at an Outkast set. A crowd who was probably so drugged out to even realize who was on the stage. Coachella was the wrong fest for them to showcase their talent, Roo wouldve been perfect- but theyll be in Poland that weekend. Theyll be perfect at Lolla, probably an hour and 40 min set. At coachella they did 27 songs man! 26 full songs, and just a verse of crumbling erb. So at Lolla maybe 28. And as far as rapping, they killed it man. The critics reviews were a joke, just pathetic. Dont believe the hype, Outkast are still some of the baddest motherfunkers around, ya smell me.
