Im sure I will get blasted for this, but I have to ask: has anyone noticed that every TV show starring a successful black woman involves infidelity? Is the message being sent that we dont know how to be strong, successful, AND commited to one man/our families? Is it because if they didnt add this layer of drama, the shows wouldnt be as successful? And what does that say about US as a people? Another thing i have noticed: our black celebrity women participate in all these reality shows where the behavior would make even Maury Povich blush with embarrassment! Women whose art I have admired have failed to live up to a basic standard week after week, and we seem ok with it. But do you see white celebrity women participating in these drama filled shows as often? When are we going to maintain a standard and stop allowing this type of tv to fill our homes? They only do it because we watch. If we stopped, they would change these shows. When are we going to stop making excuses like these are the only shows we have to watch so what choice do we have or they are just keeping it real (FYI - NONE of that is real) or we gotta support out own? Cant we make the condition of our support be that they must represent us in a way that we can take pride in? When are we going to stop being afraid to speak out against how our women are represented in the media? I recently heard a minister say that these days, everything is tolerated except tolerance- when will we stop being tolerant of the inferiority message that is forced down our throats each week? Go ahead, call me super holy or too serious or whatever you want. Someone has to say something. IJS
