Im sure most of you have seen ads for UBER offering 45K a year for driving people around. I have some questions. 1 How is this not a Taxi service? I beleive it is, and as such should be licensed by the Public Service Commission like other taxi services. 2 How are the public protected in the case of the driver not being insured adequately for opperation of a commercial vehicle. Given that the minimum insurance coverage mandated in Montana is $25000 you can see where this might be an issue. 3 Are the drivers subjected to the same random screening and driving limits as other commercial drivers. If so who is going to police it and how? Now, I am one of the last people you will ever here call for more government regulation, however, this service I beleive gives an unfair advantage to unregulated private drivers while commercial taxi drivers are subject to extensive licenseing, screening and inspection as mandated by the PSC. All the while leaving the public exposed as they travel unaware that they may not be covered in the event of an accident. Or that their driver has been up for 3 days straight doing meth and is on probation.
