Im that child who worries when a parent suddenly says shed like to - TopicsExpress

Im that child who worries when a parent suddenly says shed like to resume hiking solo with her (very unruly and powerful) dog after quite the hiatus. For Christmas, the dog is getting a Ruffwear Palisades pack and a Roamer leash. The mom is getting the pocket knife and firesteel (for anyone wondering, the firesteel handle is a messy Solomon bar that needs to be redone, knife lanyard is fishtail). But I worry that she wouldnt know what to do with these if they got lost/stuck. Can anyone recommend a good starter reference for an older lady and a good, simple, not overly comprehensive, laminated survival pocket guide? If youre not the one carrying the pack (dog is), then how do you carry basic little survival items? As you can see, Im thinking they could be hung from the leash loop at the waist, but then I worry that folks might see her carrying a knife. Im not even sure why that would be a worry.
