Im the city of the knowledge and Ali is its gate (Prophet Muhammad). This narration shows us the high position of Imam Ali as the most knowledgeable man after the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This knowledge that Imam Ali had encompassed all the fields of life. After the prophet Muhammad passed away, Muslims used to ask Imam Ali about every problem, issue and dilemma they encountered in their life. This is due to the fact that Imam Ali learned all his knowledge from the prophet Muhammad and was the only one who was able to answer all questions concerning all issues. He was the authority whom all Muslims referred to, while he did not have to ask anyone about any issue. Although Imam Ali supposed to be the first successor of the prophet Muhammad as the prophet said in his speech to Muslims (when they were coming back from Hajj...its a famous incident that was narrated from many scholars) , he did not fight to retain his right; but rather he said: I will remain peaceful as long as the Muslims affairs are being taken care of and the only injustice committed in against me. Therefore, all Muslims owe to Imam Ali his deeds which saved Islam and caused Islamic unity. I cant fulfill all the great lifes aspects of Imam Ali in few words. . but I can say that Imam Ali is a role model for Muslims and non Muslims.. .actually for all mankind and we should learn from this great man.
