Im thinking it might be my age, I can get so tangled up in the most simple things. Went on line this morning to figure out voter registration criteria here in Ky. It is required that one declare party affiliation in order to register. This mandate sends me into a severe catatonic state of mind. There is no way out, rationalizing becomes an act of complicity. I actually experienced some enthusiasm for casting a Grimes ballot, but publically declaring my allegiance with a political party would require a complete collapse of any moral conviction that I have managed to maintain. As much as I appreciate Russell Brands messaging, I am just not ready to opt out. In past lives I mostly voted as a democrat with one glaring obscene exception, I crossed over into a republican primary so I could vote for GHWB against Reagan, thats how clearly I saw that guy coming.. In the last couple of decades my vote has gone Green, Natural Law Party, Socialist and I openly admit to most recently, being duped by Obama. Considering the alternatives, my conscience although it suffers, is eased somewhat. I have learned a few things over the years and I am afraid that declaring party affiliation is a commitment I am not only unwilling to make, I am unwilling to pragmatically, white lie about. I may find myself locked out, which causes me great angst. It is my Vietnam experience that has kept me so engaged all these years. It is good I am an old man and my relevance is fading, otherwise had I not grown to accept this fact, Id be pissed off.
