Im tired of the fitness industry telling us that failure to diet - TopicsExpress

Im tired of the fitness industry telling us that failure to diet and exercise stems from a lack of personal responsibility. … tired of seeing quotes like this being posted: Excuses dont burn calories Nobody cares about your excuses. Its your ass, you move it Pain is weakness leaving the body … tired of seeing pictures of photoshopped half naked people and 6 packs that are supposedly motivating. Do you realize the damage this messaging and these photos are causing?? All these things keep people striving for that unattainable goal, and coming back for that next issue of Shape, and the next belly-fat-busting miracle supplement. But the brilliant thing about all these products is that when they don’t work, it’s because YOU didn’t work hard enough to make them work. YOU failed at the diet. YOU didn’t exercise quite enough. What if we were more focused on health, positive messaging, and more realistic outcomes? Ive recently signed a pledge with New Body Ethic to commit to doing just that. New Body Ethic is bringing health and fitness professionals together who understand that health and wellness come from a LIFELONG process of learning how to take care of one’s body, for the long-term, NOT the quick fix. The pledge is aiming to help make the culture of fitness more responsible, inclusive, and hype-free—to make fitness work for everyone. By signing the pledge, I commit to to seek to understand the environmental and cultural contexts in which we make our health decisions. To avoid focusing mostly on aesthetic outcomes. Rather, I commit to try to help my clients learn to appreciate their bodies the way they are in the moment, but also to realize the wonderful potential each body holds for overcoming challenges, adapting, and learning new skills and movements. The pledge states: - Movement is a human right; - Appearance isn’t everything; - Health is more than an individual choice; - Health is not a product; - Evidence matters; - Clients come first. Read more about their philosophy and sign the pledge here: newbodyethic/the-pledge/ I encourage all health and fitness professionals to sign the pledge! Lets change the culture!!!
